"When I was in the 5th and 6th year, I had a teacher who had many passions and still does some years later. The one he loved to share with his young pupils was the sport he enjoyed: climbing. For two years we had the chance to spend a few afternoons in a climbing hall not far from our homes. Once we had been given our equipment and reminded of the attitudes to adopt, we were taught how to execute and check the two main knots needed for climbing while being belayed and when belaying another climber, we were able to start. We climbed the various walls in pairs, which we chose and changed as we pleased. The courageous and ambitious among us preferred the more difficult walls, while others competed to see who could reach the top first. It was never constrictive or boring to spend time in a place like that. There was always a pleasant atmosphere among the pupils and trust was the watchword on those relaxed afternoons."
