IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE RED FACES, Delémont

Industrial development in Delémont was driven by the exploitation of the region’s rich iron ore deposits. Until the 1920’s, the raw material was extracted by miners and then processed in blast furnaces and smelters. The 100-year old wellhead building of Les Rondez is one of the last vestiges of iron ore mining.

During this fascinating tour, you will discover buildings and unusual places, witnesses of the city’s urban, industrial and demographic development between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. A local guide will offer anecdotes and explain the history behind these architectural witnesses.
