Pottery museum

"Arriving at the pottery museum we get the impression of being sent back to the 60s, when the impressive building served as a school for the village children who must have looked forward to meeting their classmates, but also been a bit fearful of the quite strict institution of those days. Nothing of this can be felt anymore, and we enter the building expectantly. We marvel at this significant piece of history which made Bonfol famous, namely, its manufacture of pottery. Nothing reminds us of the stern atmosphere of the former classrooms. The three halls on the ground floor as well as the two on the first floor are wheelchair-accessible. The large number of the most diverse objects made of clay are nicely displayed in thematic showcases. We learn about the historic development of dishes, pots, bricks, tiles and countless other articles of daily use, as well as the inevitable transition from working at home to working at a factory. We find out interesting details about the potters who made Bonfol famous and can admire their instruments, tools, molds, and other utensils on the first floor as a manifestation of their inventiveness and know-how. After seeing the museum we pay a visit to Felicitas Holzgang, the last potter of Bonfol, whose workshop is nearby."
