"Recently, while on a hiking tour to the Etang de la Gruère, we saw an enourmous pine tree. A plate at its foot informed us about its age which is estimated to be more than 136 years. It is also one of the pine trees with the largest circumference in the Franches-Montagnes. These pieces of information, to be read quickly and easily, are very valuable. It turned out that many unusual trees are distributed over the whole area of the Jura. Updated information on these trees together with suggestions for hiking tours can be found in the Internet, since not all the trees are marked at their location."
In 2011, within the framework of the international year of the forests, the canton of Jura identified a number of extraordinary trees on its cantonal territory. They are characterized by their size, their age, their form, their history, or their botanical peculiarities.
